Designed a Gen-AI Prototype to Optimize Product Copy for a YCombinator W24 startup

Role: UX Designer (Design team of 1)

Duration: December 2023 to January 2024

Skills: Wireframing, Prototyping, Brand Identity

justwords.ai is an early stage startup backed by YCombinator (Winter 2024 batch) that optimizes product copy on emails, push notifications, etc. for large companies.

Fun fact: The CEO of this startup is an alumni of my graduate program at UC Berkeley.

Background

The founders needed support with creating a prototype for their product.

Based on the insights provided from customers, I created a prototype in Figma for them to use as a product demo in customer calls.

Design Process

With no brand identity or design system, I began by gathering inspiration from similar products such as writer.com and craftly.ai. I created a list of product requirements based on research insights.

Then, I transformed low fidelity sketches to mid-fidelity mockups in Figma (see example below).

Key Design Decisions

For this project, I worked with the founders every step of the way to explore design decisions.

1) Progress Bar

Users are able to view where they are in the current flow and how many steps are remaining.

2) Preview Screen

Based research insights from customers, it is important for user to be able to visualize how inputs affect the generated copy.

3) Individual and Batch Selection

Users are able to select one or multiple copies to push into testing. I also included the preview column to remind users of the type of copy that may be generated.

Reflections

In this project, I practiced incorporating feedback into my designs and creating a visual identity for the product. With a blank canvas, I was able to tie in the most important needs for the end user into a working prototype.
